The Governor of the Tyrol Günther Platter and the EU Commissioner for Regional Policy, Corina Crețu, cordially invite you to the 2nd Annual Forum of the EU Strategy for the Alpine Region (EUSALP) under the Tyrolean presidency 2018.

The EU Strategy for the Alpine Region (EUSALP) involves seven states (Germany, France, Italy, Austria, Slovenia, Switzerland and Liechtenstein) and 48 regions of those States in the Alpine Region. In view of its unique natural and geographic characteristics, the Alpine Region is facing the challenges of the 21st century with particular intensity. These include demographic trends, climate change, economic globalisation requiring the territory to proof as competitive and innovative and the need to develop sustainable transport policies. One thing is clear: they cannot be tackled in isolation!

This is why the EU Strategy for the Alpine Region provides an answer by putting in place innovative initiatives in the fields of trade, industry and energy, infrastructure, transport and the protection of environment and of natural resources through macro-regional cooperation between the Alpine States and Regions, but also with non-state actors. At the 2nd Annual Forum as the main event of the Alpine year, politicians, experts, young people and civil society will discuss possible solutions, ideas and visions for the main concerns of the Alpine Region in the framework of various events and workshops.

The motto of the Annual Forum is "shaping.future.together. with the next generation". The focus is put on the preservation and further development of the Alpine region as a living and working environment for the next generation. A very particular matter is the concrete involvement of young people into Alpine Cooperation. The Annual Forum aims to sensitize young people between 15 and 28 to the special features of the Alpine region and to involve them in shaping the future of their own region. In the framework of the contest “Pitch your project”, young people can present their own Alpine project, implement it with the support of a prize and thus contribute in a very concrete way to the future regional development of the Alps. At the same time, the Annual Forum is the starting point for the long-term involvement of interested young people in the EU Strategy for the Alpine Region.

The Tyrolean Presidency and the EU therefore invite all interested parties to actively participate in the discussion on how to address major challenges, to use the opportunities and to strengthen cooperation in the Alpine Region.

Let’s shape the Alpine Future together!
